Four German castles, one checklist

Seven weeks after King Ludwig II died in 1886, Neuschwanstein was opened to the public. Burg Eltz has been home to the same family for 900 years. Hohenzollern Castle is still privately owned by the Hohenzollern family.

We read each castle’s own official site in October 2026 and put one checked fact for each in a short PDF checklist, with a link to every castle so you can check hours and tickets yourself.

In this guide

  • Neuschwanstein, Burg Eltz, Hohenzollern Castle and Heidelberg Castle, each with a fact quoted from its official site
  • A link to every castle’s official site, and to our own article where we have one
  • A trip checklist, with the rail booking page
